The North Face packcoverThe packcover is coated nylon and weighs only 3 oz. it comes in a mesh bag that probably adds another .5 oz. The mesh bag is unnecessary though some might find it useful for hanging your packover on the outside of the pack to dry. I find that the dark charcoal colored packcover dries rather quickly and the mesh bag is unnecessary. I just roughly roll the packcover up and wrap it with the drawstring to keep it in a tidy package. It is much more rugged than comparably sized (and weighted) silnylon covers. The top part is elasticized but the sides are not. The bottom has a drawstring which prevented water from collecting in the bottom like many other elasticized packcovers. Because it fit the Dana Designs Terraplane, size small, like a glove, I never had problems with the packcover catching wind. The only signs of wear on the packcover are some delaminated coating where the stays on my backpack, having worn through the protective covering on the pack, started wearing the packcover. This is after a 1999 thruhike of the Appalachian Trail. |
