In 2007,I caught a ride back to the trail from Chemult with some college students on a road trip. There's a convenience store-Subway-gas station on the west side of the hwy across from the Amtrak stop. I bought a sandwich and asked the clerk if it would be okay if I yogied the gas customers for a ride. It didn't take long at all and they appreciated a little help with the gas money.

Getting to Chemult from the trail was a little slower the day before that. There's a trailhead parking area with a pit toilet and tables a short distance west of the PCT on the north side of the hwy. I hung out there for a few hours until a couple returned from their day hike and gave me a lift into town. Again, gas money helps.

From Medford, I think there's a shuttle bus you can get to the Klamath Falls Amtrak. Then you could catch the Amtrak to Chemult and hitch.

Section hiking is full of weird off-trail adventures and twisted logistics. Somebody always seems to be there when you need them, though. Trail magic rules. I found the people in Oregon to be especially helpful. That was an unforgettable summer.
