There's not much in Onyx as far as shopping. Just a gas station with  
a small mini-mart. Many people I met preferred Lake Isabella because  
there was ice cream available. It's a relatively hard hitch either  
way, but not impossible.

I went from Tehachapi to Lone Pine before a proper resupply, stopping  
at KM for supplemental food and a zero day. From Tehachapi to KM was  
only 6 days for me. Left Tehachapi after breakfast on 6/5 and arrived  
at KM before 9AM on 6/11. It didn't seem necessary to me to make a  
detour to Onyx.
