I don't get it. I sort of understood his unsupported thrus of the Colorado
Trail and the JMT a few years ago. But 40 days on the AT, starting with a
127 pound pack (112 pounds are food)??? I'm trying to imagine the hike up
out of Tesnatee Gap, or up Sassafras Mountain, with more than 100 pounds on
my back. Heck, the Approach Trail won't be but so easy.
Assuming he eats the same amount each day, after 20 days he'll still have 56
pounds of food and a 71 pound pack. He won't get into the realm of
reasonable weight until he gets very close to the end of his hike.
It's one thing to actually complete a trail, like the JMT maybe, in this
unsupported fashion. I wouldn't do it, but more power to him. But I just
don't see the point with this latest stunt, er, hike. Isn't the whole point
of Golite summed up in their name?
But I guess I'm talking about it, so it's working.
