The 1966 prices I quoted for gas was what was being charged where I lived at
the time near Fort Drum, NY. I can vouch for Art's pricing on a new Chevy.
One of my Army buddies bought a brand new Chevy Malibu and paid $2600. There
wasn't any sales tax then BTW. When I graduated from college in 1971
beginning teachers in NY were averaging $8K. I know that in many states
teachers were paid less.
