I remember hearing from Pat that the whole hiking thing was Bob's interest, not
hers. Pat was very interested in the therapeutic benefits of horse riding for
autistic children & others that are disabled. That was years ago, and it may be
that her attitude was only short-lived.
She enjoyed many of the people that the AT brought to their door, but she always
had some stories of the "scary" ones, the "he/she was so stupid" ones, and the
pushy/snobby/egotistical hikers that she met. These stories would come out more
during the off season or when I was visiting for Thanksgiving.
But she supported Bob's interest in the trail, and she believed in the trail as
a meaningful journey for those in transition. She enjoyed the 'whatever happened
to' stories that Bob would tell her.
I expect there will be some donations to the ATC in memory of her, both for her
contributions to the trail and also for Bob's benefit. If you consider that
funerals & remembrance ceremonies are for the survivors perhaps it's even more
appropriate to send something to either TN Eastman Hiking Club or ATC. --Arthur

Yeah, but what about AT-related things? Meaning no disrespect to either Pat or
these organizations, I'd rather go the AT way, if possible.
