I use ziplocks too.  You can get tiny ziplocks at art supply stores  
(and possibly other places) which pack more neatly than the snack size  
ziplocks from the grocery.  I haven't found any rigid pill containers  
that deal well with being in a backpack.

If you are good at remembering that you've taken your pills, you don't  
have to label them by date, just put the individually packaged  
ziplocks in a larger bag.

If you're going in a rainy season,  you might think about using a  
vacuum sealer to make airtight packages rather than using the more  
iffy ziplocks.
