Just an FYI, the SPOT is what I got for x-mas this past year from my "always worried about my safety"? father.?I've been a Type I diabetic for 22 years, and a hiker/camper about 25.? He researched all of the models and found this one to be the best offering.? It's not as technologically as advanced as the Microfix, but it costs about $400 less, and unless you're lost on Everest, works just as well.? SPOT provides great service in N.A., Europe, and I think Australia, as well as most of Asia, etc.?It has an annual membership of $99 bucks, but seems well worth it.? Backpacking mag gave it an award this year? for being most innovative product.? I know you can get it through REI, and you can read all about it at www.findmespot.com.? Hope this helps.
