[at-l] Man pleads guilty to hiker's murder -

This case irked me like no other recent murder case, and I'll avoid throwing
up the why's of that. The good thing about that plea bargain is (1) he's
behind bars and can't do it again and (2) the prosecutors in other cases can
develop their cases, free of the plea bargain that keeps him off the trails
and elsewhere from Meredith's case. For those of us who are ok, favor, or
are gung-ho with the death penalty, this should be good news; a part of me
is in your camp on this one, even tho' I have philosophical problems with
government taking lives, especially democratic governments.

An online and personal acquaintance of mine from tribe.net (a san fran
social site) and I have decided to go up and hike around Blood Mountain on
Saturday, 16 February, "in Meredith's memory." There have already been
other, larger, more publicized "memorial" hikes. Actually, this hike is more
for us who are pissed off and angry, than for Meredith, to be brutally
honest. Some may say a prayer, others smudge some sage or light some
incense, others may pour some wine or whiskey, while still others may burn
one down . . . we're ok with all of you who wish to join us. Some will go
for a day hike. Others may spend the night. (I think I will.) Send me an
email if you want details . . .
