[at-l] Genesis of a trailname...

Been using some of my new found spare time since October transcribing my old
journals into e-format. Reading some of this ancient history is rather
amusing (or bemusing sometimes).
Part of an entry from my Long Trail hike in '89 (dress rehearsal for the
AT):
Some of the hikers I've met use "trail names" like "Ramblin' Rick" and
"Crackerjack", something I hadn't thought of or planned on adopting. I'd
just been signing off the registers as 'Southbound' because so few people do
the LT that way (people I've met say that I'm the first one of the year).
Lately however, the bugs have taken to tormenting me, so I've adopted the
name "Skeeterbait"; as a matter of fact they just tormented me from the
picnic table to the inside of this lean-to, where I'm a little harder to
find. Next step is long pants, but I don't want to do that yet, it's still
too hot.
As close as I'll ever come to the start of my alter-ego...
