Tuesday morning at 7, I was reading the outside temperature to be 28
degrees when the weatherman on our local station announced that the
temperature on top of Cannon Mountain - across Franconia Notch from
Mt Lafayette - was 55 degrees. People were skiing at Gunstock
wearing shorts and tank tops as the temps topped 55 degrees at the
ski area. I ditched my coat, gloves and long underwear to ski in my
fleece. You could almost see the snow disappear on the summit of Mt
Washington. Wednesday it rained in all of NH. Thunderstorms passing
through the area made the mountain close the lifts temporarily to
avoid frying any skiers. Can you believe people actually wanted take
ski lessons in the rain? Oh ya! You guys are hikers. You do it in
the rain. Anyway, our four feet of snow is reduced to 8 inches of
ice. Skiing is very fast and it's raining again today - Friday. The
Sun is suppose to come out tomorrow - sounds like a song. Another
snow storm is expected Sunday Night into Monday. I hope so I hate
skiing on ice!!!
