Gee, I didn't mean to offend anyone.? I'm terrified of NYC--have only been there once.? Rube that I am, I thought anything north of halfway up the state was upstate.? I stand corrected.
Joan -- originally from SOUTHERN Illinois (which means that hilly, wooded area in the 60 miles south of Carbondale).

Ahem! Upstate you call that? Only to someone from NYC. The line between Niagara Falls and Saratoga is roughly the middle of the state and those of us really live in "upstate NY" call that "the Southern Tier".
Those are nice places to visit though even if they are 'down South'. :-)

I'm in the very beginning of planning an upstate NY vacation for late July/early August.? The "must do" list includes:
Niagara Falls
baseball game in Toronto
a day?at the races at Saratoga
Corning glass museum
I want to fit in some easy day hikes--probably in the 'daks and Finger Lakes.
For those of you familiar with the grand circle I'm contemplating, can you suggest:
1.? some relatively?short, easy day hikes? (I need knee replacement surgery, so the hikes can't have strenuous climbs)
2.? any other "must do" ideas--great museums appreciated, great places for a rental canoe/kayak paddle,?things like a wine tour or orchards, etc.
3.? campgrounds that are nice and won't break the bank
I've got some guidebooks and literature, but you all are always a great source of ideas!
thanks,
Joan
