Sorry to be late in wishing everyone a Happy New Year.? I do have a hiking/outdoor excuse.? I (and 83 others) were camping in the Ocala National Forest at Doe Lake.? This is a Florida Trail Association Central Chapter annual event; 84 was the largest attendance to date.? It was also the largest attendance of mosquitos every evening.? 

Mosquitios should be gone tonight; there's a hard freeze predicted all the way to Orlando with wind chills into the teens in some places.

During the day we hiked, paddled, rode bikes, played bocchi (sp?) ball, and swapped lies.? At night there were communal meals (one night of barbeque, one night with stone soup, one night of pot luck)and slide shows of hikes, paddle trips, and outdoor vacations.? There's a big lodge and a bath house with hot showers.?We have a big campfire everynight with more lie swapping around the fire.

The most frequently heard question was:? Where are Jan and Linda?? The Benshops were greatly missed.? It was fun but would have been better with Jan's nightly concerts.

I started the New Year's right with a hike on the 1st AND a?sighting of a bear sow and two almost?grown cubs crossing the road as I drove home.
