The Long Trail runs vertically up the spine of Vermont. It precedes the A.T.
by a few years, IIRC. It takes about 4 weeks to hike, so makes a nice
thru-hike for someone who can't get six months off from work.

Jan "Liteshoe" published her LT journal last year, which makes a nice read.
You could also check various hiker journals on trailjournals.com.
