I returned late Sunday from the Florida Hiking Festival
[ http://www.floridahikingfestival.org/ ]. Am trying to catch
up on sleep and the backlog of emails.
The Festival was a combination of the Florida Trail Association's
annual conference and events meant to appeal to a wider group
than just FTA members -- essentially, it was a name change and
the addition of more hikes than usual to the schedule.
It was the kickoff of a year-long celebration of the:
1. 40th Anniversary of the National Trails System Act.
2. 25th Anniversary of the Florida Trail's designation as
Florida's own National Scenic Trail.
Some excellent speakers, especially the program by John Moran:
"Journal of Light: A Photographer’s Search for the Soul of Florida."

Like the Gathering, it was a grand reunion with folks not seen
otherwise during the year. And, also like the Gathering, over
much too quickly.
Something about the weekend must have inspired me -- I planted a
bunch of colorful flowers around my mailbox this afternoon. Of
course, with my 'black thumb' they won't last a week. But one tries.
Gotta run bake that cake-with-file. ;->
