Dear Jan,
Another true thing that I write as I think, is that your writing brings me
to the out-of-doors and has since the days of my reading Trail Journals in
2003.
Your book of adventure on the Long Trail is fascinating. How you did those
long miles I will never know. My mileage for a whole week on the AT was
17-20 miles. I was pathetic! But I did get out there and the AMTRAK experience
from NYC to Georgia (The Midnight Train to Georgia) was worth the effort.
Well, so far I am with you (just a couple of years after the actual hike) on
the Long Trail. I have spent time in the Manchester Depot, and Peru, and
Stratton areas. What I cannot understand is why your and your hiking buddy,
Clyde, didn't ride the Alpine Slide to the bottom of Bromley Mountain and have
a hot meal or such. It is something I have done over and over when my kids
were small. Well, I guess after hiking up to Bromley's summit it might be
hard to go down that fast.
Your writing continues to bring me to places I have not visited and your
rendition of your wonder and awe of the beauty of nature brings a healing,
peaceful feeling as I read. Since I am just up to the Bromley area in your book I
look forward to when you get to Canada.
Thanks for sharing your adventure with me and all who are fortunate to read
of it.
Jack Skylander
