The only problem is the expense of Austin to (insert section name here) each
time I want to do a section....
If I'm going to go through all that trouble, might as well do a state at a
time...  
Uhhh.... what IS a section?  A state?  Something shorter?   Told you I was
new....  lol...
But I will attempt to do some longer hikes in our area...  We have an area
around Austin 
referred to as Hill Country...  for good reasons....   But I'll work up to
it with heavier and 
heavier packs...  yeah, I know...  don't over pack...
I did a lot of reading on the Appalachian Trail Conservancy web site
yesterday...

Welcome to the list. You might find a section hike of a week or two is just
the thing to get a taste of the trail before you can do the whole thing.
