### You can get around this with three solutions:
1) "Unpack" your sleeping bag -- load it into your
pack as a tube, and pack within it. It will loft out
and take up the extra room. (Plus, it will give you a
head start on the practice you'll undertake with a
light pack.
2) Bungie cords attached to the sides of the pack will
tighten things up, but their comparatively heavy, AND
they will stretch/retighten, allowing your whole load
to physically bounce (and pull on your shoulders) more
than it actually weighs).
3) Do the above with velcro tape ($2.00 from just
about anywhere), which will be very lightweight, AND
will don't bounce.
