I'll be a bit more specific - on our last long distance hikes, we carried
ULA-Equipment packs. I used a Catalyst; Jim carried the discontinued P2.
We both liked our packs. Depending on how small your tent and sleeping bag
are, you might be able to use the smaller sized Circuit or Conduit, since
you are looking for a weekend pack and not one for extended trips. However,
if you are hiking in the southwest, you'll probably be carrying water which
is heavy, so a very very light pack might not work for you. With the ULA
packs, be aware that the size given includes all the pockets - the actual
packbag is much smaller than the numbers indicate. What I liked about the
Catalyst was that it was a very comfortable pack even when I was carrying
heavy food or water loads. Yet it was also comfortable when we were down to
the last day or two before town and the pack was nearly empty. I consider
it very versatile. I've heard good things about the Circuit as well. I
just don't/won't pack light enough to use it.
