For all those considering a thruhike next year...

I was just reminded that it's time for the ATC's yearly map and guidebook
sale.

>From now until Dec 21, the ATC sells the entire set of maps, state-by-state
guidebooks, and latest Data Book (2008) for about what it would cost you to
normally just buy the maps and Data Book, and join the ATC (necessary to get
the discount and well worthwhile).  While the individual state-by-state
guidebooks are something few thruhikers or long-distance section hikers
choose to carry, they might help with planning or be good references to have

In the interest of full disclosure, I did once work for the ATC for a couple
of months in 2005, but have been sending out a version of this message for
many years before that.  I am just a satisfied customer after someone else
sent a message like this out the autumn before my own hike in '99.
