Chase! You nutball! Don't you know that "any idiot can
run a marathon, but it takes a special kind of idiot
to run an ultra...." ??? Welcome to the ranks of
special idiots.

For those who might run into Chase, his "10,000 miles"
of backpacking includes a 17 year section hike of the
Appalachian Trail, plus, didn't you just complete a 3?
year do-over? WHILE maintaining some semblance of
hearth/home??? "Horton Miles" will mean nothing to
this guy.

Anywho, another addition to the ranks of
ultra-listers/AT-2000-miler ranks.

Hi Gang,
I just ran my first ultra. The Promise Land
50 K 8:13 Before this I have ran a couple of 10 K
trail runs.

Name:Charles Davidson (chase)

E-mail:wb4pan at mindspring.com
Occupation:electrition
Height:6'
Weight:165
Birthplace:Danville, Virginia
Date of birth:02/11/1954

Years running:1
Years running ultras:0
PRs:prprprpr ok so I an new. Whats a PR?

Shoes I run in:Nike Gel with stone shield. I can
backpack about 400 miles in a pair.

Favorite running surface:earth

Some ultras I have completed:The Promise Land 50K 2007

Ultra achievement I am most proud of:Finishing in
under ten hours. I didn't know if I could.

Typical training week:I like to run the local mountain
bike trails after work. Weekends I run trails around
Roanoke. Barely up to 25 miles average week.

Injury history:Like most new runners I has some shin
problems from over doing it and had to run less than I
wanted to last year. Shins pretty much set my training
pace. They are growing stronger not as fast as I would
like. But I am getting faster and running further.

Favorite ultra foods:I ate cliff gels because I didn't
know what to expect at the aid stations. Plus I had a
fear of running out of energy so I carried 14 gels but
only ate 11.

Favorite ultra beverages:I like gator aide but on a 15
mile training run I really gagged when I mixed it with
gels. My friend Dr. Buffington gave me heck for not
drinking his Coquest drink and for not getting advice
in general from him before the race. I did have lots
of cramping problems after the race.

Things I like most about ultras:I just love being in
the woods. I have backpacked 10,000 miles over the
years. I like to challenge my body to reach its
limits.

Things I hate most about ultras:
What got me started doing ultras:I met an ultra runner
and she got me running.

Why I do ultras:because I can

Where I found out about the list:David Hortons site

Short-term ultra goal:I was thinking about a 50 miler
in November. I really need to train more and wait for
2008 but what the heck. Maybe it would be good
training to go for it.

Long-term ultra goal:
Fantasy ultra goal:

Favorite ultra quote(s):

I welcome advice from you experienced runners. I
like to sort through what works for others to help
find what will work for me. I am sure I can set back
and lurk mode and glean lots of info from this list.
