[at-l] some real questions...

Hey, I've got a couple of REAL gear 'repair' questions.
First, I have a pair of gaiters, brand new except for the recent PA
hike. They are WAY too big at the top. The are velcro-fronted and there
is an elastic-type band around the top. There is a little 'pull cord'
deal on one side. (You following me on this!?!) So, my question... how
can I make it so that they 'fit'? Can I shorten the pull cord thing so
it 'pulls' sooner? Can I 'stitch' a loop into the elastic band making it
'smaller'? Anyone? (they were a gift a few years ago and have been
worn...so, returning them is not an option)

Secondly, I have some Leki Makula (Mukala, Mukalu,
Mukaluk...something...) and one of them won't 'tighten'. I've pulled
that section out and hand-tightened the nut on it several times and it
works fine THAT TIME. If I adjust it/collapse it, the same thing
happens. Advice for keeping the nut tight?
