The third edition of The Complete Walker opened the outdoors for me, and
guided me through my first solo hikes, my first long hike, and my first
hikes with my family. Several years ago I found a first edition in the local
used book store, hardback and in great condition. It's one of my favorite
books, and holds up well even in these modern times. Sure, the gear has
changed, but the underlying philosophy -- why I hike in the first place --
is still the same.

I'm going to raise a cold one to Colin's memory tonight. Happy Trails,
friend.
