Good luck! It's a good idea. 
A bunch of us hikers and well-wishers did this with Yahoo in 2003, and it was the source of much merriment, bonding and support. It is still periodically active.
Have fun - the next nine months will be as memorable as the hike itself.
It's a very special time.
