[at-l] Where does one go to find rides?

To celebrate my 60th, I'm doing a thru-hike of the A.T. this year. It will be a "Leap-Frog"; Springer to Harpers Ferry, then jump up to Connecticut to Katahdin, then jump back to Connecticut and back to Harpers Ferry.

It would be great if we had a web site that would allow one to post ride requests/Offers. For example, at least once a year I drive up to New England to do some mountain bike racing and visit my college daughter there. If I could check to see if any hikers are going in either direction, they would be welcome. (this year I won't be making the drive, just walking :>)

I did post a request to get from here (Sarasota, Flori-duh) to Springer Mtn. on Craigs list, they have a rideshare category, however, the way Craigs works is it is by region, so if I post here on the local Sarasota, Florida listing, unless someone up north looks specifically at my local area, they won't see it. Craigs doesn't do national listings, just by region. I did get two possible responses to the request, maybe something will work out.

A web site that used a form to post requests would be neat, ie: Name, From, To, Date (earliest, latest), Number in Party, With/Without Dog, etc. The request would automatically expire of course, just in case it is forgotten after the date of request.

Just a thought, but maybe some web savvy individual will be inspired and take it on as a college senior project or something?
