Have you tried Google Earth? It shows FS 42 as well as shelters too: Black Gap Shelter, Springer Mountain Shelter, Stover Creek Shelter, Hawk Mountain Shelter, Gooch Mountain Shelter, etc including their mileages. If you click on the little "i" for each shelter, it gives you a photo of the shelter. Pretty cool stuff.

the spot correctly, the parking lot on FS42 below Springer should be just to

With wikimapia we could map the entire trail with links to pictures
elsewhere on the web!
Some people have already started marking some spots on wikimapia, but the
sothern terminus is open territory, folks, and we want to get it right!
