Just a slight follow-through on a previous OT topic:

I was pondering why, if passive solar was so advanced, why the
"loop" of a geo-exchange system couldn't be run through passive heating units on
the roof while the sun was shining? This short loop would involve heat values
much higher than that of the underground system. Its efficiency would be very
high to the point of maximum efficiency. So, when the sun was shining, this loop
would provide very hot fluid into the heat exchanger instead of the 52* fluid
gained from the underground passive heat.

Also, the Times had and article telling how wood furnaces are
becoming a problem because of their popularity. These furnaces burn at low
temperature and oxygen rates, therefore emitting acrid-smelling, particulate-laden
smoke into the local surroundings. Many communities are creating laws to limit
their use because of this. Wood furnaces are a small shed-like unit placed
outside the home that burn cut wood. Persons with a cheap supply of wood save on
expensive heating oil or gas.
