Just to add one more idea that affects leave/take out decisions on trees
across trails.

Our trails are part of the fire control system working as fire breaks to
stop the spread. Trees across a trail tend to collect leaves behind the tree
and give a ready path for a fire to cross the trail.  If you are in a fire
prone area being more aggressive about removal is a good idea.
