This is way off topic but relates to Rich's original post,
I believe in reincarnation, not only between dogs-dogs but 
dogs-cats-humas-dog-human-etc. I know I my beliefs are not the same as what 
my biblebelt friends believe but to each his/her own. Ever wonder why some 
people can pick things up for the first time and be absolutly brilliant? 
Ever try somthing for the first time and find out that you are exceptionally 
good at it? makes you wonder huh, That souls never die, they are only 
recycled and start anew in a new body, in a new social stance, in a new part 
of the world, heck even a new species for that matter. Ever wonder why your 
consistently called to the outdoors, other than its beauty and highs & lows. 
Maybe you were a woodland creature at some point in time. Are you a packrat 
now? then maybe you were a squirrel or chipmunk or mouse that had to gather 
and save things for the winter. hate being alone? maybe you were a pack 
animal in a previous life (wolves, cyotes, lions, hyenas, and others) like 
the solitude at work and home? maybe you were a cougar, lynx, bear, tiger, 
or something else.
I think it is possible that Gus was reincarnated into Jack. you never know.
