I got up early to head over to Gunstock to teach skiing for a few
hours but could not move my truck. We got 13 inches of snow on the
ground between 3 AM and 7 AM this morning. New Hampshire has now
exceeded the total snow fall record for the month of December by
several inches. The record was set in 1876 at 43 inches in Concord.
Concord got around 7 inches from this storm. We got twice that
setting our total for December around 48 inches. Some of that snow
melted so we now have a little more than 3 feet of snow on the ground
with a few inches of ice under that. I took a walk on my snow shoes
out onto the lake to take some photos. It is absolutely beautiful.
It feels like I am walking around in a black and white world with a
few buildings and evergreens sneaking in some color. I stopped by a
bob hous to talk with the guys out fishing through the ice and found
out that the ice is about 10 inches thick already. A few years ago
we had an almost snowless winter but it got extremely cold. The ice
was measured at over 6 feet thick. People were driving trucks on it.
The snowplow came by around 12:30 PM and struggled to push the snow
off the driveway. We are expecting another 5 to 10 inches tomorrow.
Guess I will try to make it to work early tomorrow to make up for
missing work today. Here is wishing everyone a wonderful New Year.
Be careful on the roads tonight.
