I was thinking the same thing about the pad. I hope REI has it because
I know I can either test it in the store or return it if I don't like
it.

Toe, does that offer extend to me?

Also: what year was your thru hike (out
of curiosity.)

I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of
gear purchases in the next few weeks or
months. My curiosity has been piqued
concerning these pads. (And much else,
besides.)

I think it'll start with a spreadsheet of
alternatives, pros & cons, and a figure
for "dollars per ounce" for each ounce saved.

E.g.:

* old short thermie, 18 oz [REF]
* new Pro-lite short thermie, 10 oz.
+  8 oz saved @ $70 = $8.75/oz
* new "Mt Wash" or equivalent
+ 10 oz saved @ $45 = $4.50/oz

* old pack: 4 lbs
* new pack, 2 lbs
+ 32 oz saved @ $150 = $4.68/oz

Ditto for tent/tarp, cooking pots, water
bottles, etc.
