What I writ:
"The simplest observation to put against the question
of whether passion exists in hiking is to look at the
amount of time invested. Hikers may invest upwards of
7 months at a shot, or 90% of available vacation days,
or even quit work/school entirely. So when, exactly,
was the last time you heard of a 4Wheeler or mountain
biker going out for a 7 month ride? Don't confuse
"passion" with "rush" -- passion *lasts*, baby. Take a
hike."
