Others have given you some great options so far... If you're not set on the
most grandiose views, there are some trails closer to home that are also
well worth exploring:

- Mid-state Trail in Massachusetts - bisects Massachusetts just west of
Worcester
- Wapack Trail in NH (connects with the Mid-state Trail) - 23 miles makes a
good but rigorous weekend hike.
- North-South Trail in RI (connects with the Mid-state Trail)

- Metacomet-Monadnock Trail - bisects Massachusetts just west of Springfield
- Metacomet Trail in CT (connects with the MMT)
- Monadnock Sunapee Greenway in NH (connects with the MMT) - 51 miles (I
think) makes a good long-weekend hike.

Some of these trails have definite places to camp. Some may not. They can
all be section hiked.

I've got trip reports on my web site for the Mid-state, Wapack, and MMT.
I've also hiked the MSG. I haven't yet hiked the NST or Metacomet trail.
