Just back from a *wonderful* section hike from
Bear Mountain Bridge in NY to Lehigh Gap, PA.

Weather and scenery were a delight. Body,
equipment and attitude were all up to the task.
I lost about four or five pounds of weight.

There was, quite literally, a band playing for me on
the AT when I arrived at Delaware Water Gap.

Well, not *for me*, maybe. But there was a jazz
festival going on, it it was smack-dab on the AT,
on that short street (and stretch of trail) leading from
the I-80 toll booth to the "Church of the Mountain"
hiker hostel.

So there I was, taking in the music, chowing
down on music-festival food, after a 17-mile day
that took maybe nine hours of hiking.

Very weird to walk along I-80 with highway
traffic zooming past -- after three or four quiet
days in the woods.

There were nearly two days where I saw nary a
soul on the trail, but it turns out there were a
good number of SOBO thru-hikers both ahead
of and behind me. (A few of whom I met at DWG.)
I mostly had the shelters to myself, and tented
only twice in eleven nights.

In Unionville NY, I had a fine breakfast and
a strawberry milkshake at Sara's Cafe, and
found myself being hosted by the mayor of
the town at his home (shower, laundry,
cigarettes, coffee, and good conversation.)

Later that day I got to chat with Jim Murray,
who built and maintains the "secret shelter"
off Goldsmith Road, between Unionville and
High Point.

Insane descent off Lehigh Gap going south.
Vertigo-inducing, in fact. I can't remember
anything in the Whites or in Maine quite like
that. And I can't imagine what the f*** went on
to cause that ridge to look like a barren moon-
scape (between Little Gap and Lehigh Gap.)

Wildlife: deer, grouse, small snakes, a
porcupine, very fresh bear tracks, salamanders,
frogs, thousands of hawks and geese. The
usual cast of squirrels, chipmunks. Very
colorful fungi and mushrooms. A few leaves
are starting to fall, but in general the trees are
still quite green.

OK, my query: ages ago I had an "account"
to post photos on backcountry.net, but I've
long forgotten the username and/or password.

Can anyone direct me toward the proper person
to ask about getting set up again? New account
or the old one, it's all the same to me. I've got a
bunch of photos to share.
