Obviously it worked like a charm, given all the
excess peace in the world.

Seriously, though... this is one of the reasons
I find Bryson's account so refreshing.  He doesn't
see his hike as world-changing and doesn't saddle
it with deep spiritual meaning.

Sorry, I don't mean to be so cynical, especially
on a Sunday morning.  I think it would be great
if more people spent time in wilderness.
