Yesterday my Gossamer Gear "NightLight"
sleeping pad and Eureka "Spitfire UL" tent
arrived. I love it when UPS brings me packages.
The tent weighs 39 oz, complete. 9 oz lighter
than my ancient Eureka Gossamer. Looks tight,
goes up in a flash, has great floor space and vertical
clearance. It rained, fairly hard, but without wind.
The foot of the tent got wet. Wet enough to feel
through a summerweight down bag. Bummer.
The design of the tent appears to be very similar
to the Hilleberg "Akto". There's no hoop at the
foot of the tent, but two short sticks (probably
fiberglass) sewn into the fabric that form a foot-box
and support the fly.
The tent's volume comes from one big hoop in
the middle. The hoop comprises 5.7 oz of the
total weight.
I couldn't get comfortable on the GG pad. Good
insulator, for sure, but no comparison to a
Thermarest.
