I lived in OR for a year -- the year Mt. St. Helens
blew her top (that was June 1980, iirc.)

Oregon has a very short (but beautiful) summer,
from about mid-June to mid-August.  The other
ten months it drizzles.  At least in western OR.

I managed to do a hike near Mt. Adams (in WA)
and to the summit of South Sister (near Bend.)  In
fact South Sister was the most vertical I ever did
in a day hike, I think.

I really do love the scenery of the Pacific Crest.

The trails out west have switchbacks.  Imagine!
